Sunday 11th September Woody's 2 Black Horse 2 Black and Woody's kicked off on a cold drizzly day looking for a bit of good form after the disappointments of the last few weeks. Both teams began very tentatively with much of the game being played in midfield. The first chance of the match fell to Rob Powell of Black after 10 minutes when a good pass put him clear but the Woody's keeper got down low and blocked the shot with his body. Neither side was creating much but Black were having the greater share of possession. On 21 minutes Steve Grogan was called on for the first time when he caught a left wing cross with the Woody's forwards waiting to pounce. After half an hour Black almost took the lead when David Edwards shot just wide after great work by Kenny Fergie. Black finally broke the deadlock on 32 minutes when a pinpoint cross from Rob Powell was headed in by Andy Grubb. A few minutes later Black were almost two up when Craig Pountney fired narrowly wide when clean through. Black were having the best of it at this stage and Woody's only real threat of the half came just before half-time when a free kick from just outside the area was blocked by the Black wall. Half-time Woody's 0 Black 1. The second half began with the Woody's players looking sharper and more up for it and they got their reward after just five minutes. A mistake by the Black defence.let in a Woody's forward and he smashed a dipping volley into the net from 30 yards. Black replied by pushing forward at every opportunity and on 54 minutes Gary Eades saw a good shot pushed around the post by the Woody's keeper. Five minutes later Black regained the lead when Andy Smith played a great one two with David Edwards and rifled in a shot from the edge of the area. A slight deflection gave the Woody's keeper no chance. Woody's now began to have their best spell of the game and the Black defence was starting to look stretched. With fifteen minutes left Woody's got right back into the game when a Woody's forward, under pressure from a least three Black defenders, managed to find the corner of the corner of the Black net from 10 yards. With ten minutes to go it looked like Woody's might snatch a victory but neither side managed to create any more scoring chances and the match ended all square. Full-time Woody's 2 Black 2.
