Headless Cross 0  -  3  Black Horse

The first half of this game saw both sides locked in a midfield struggle for supremacy with
neither goalkeeper having a save to make for the first 15 minutes. On 28 minutes the Headless
Cross goalkeeper did well to fingertip a shot from Dave Rousell around a post and a minute
later Joe Walsh almost scored when he hit the side netting. This spurred Cross into action
and on 33 minutes Steve Grogan had to push a goal-bound shot around a post to keep Black level.
Minutes later another Cross effort was inches off target and Black were glad to hear the
half-time whistle. Half-time 0 - 0.
Cross continued to press just after the break and saw a shot go narrowly wide after a breakaway
involving three of their players. On 50 minutes Dave Rousell was replaced by Scott Walsh.
Five minutes later, and somewhat against the run of play, Joe Walsh was on hand to fire Black
into the lead after great play from Stuart Hall. This seemed to spur Black on and a few minutes
later Scott Walsh was able to roll the ball home after a scramble in the Cross goalmouth left
the keeper stranded. With fifteen minutes to go Black made the game safe when a great run and
cross from Martin Keight (yes Martin Keight) found Rob Powell who fired the ball home. With 10
minutes left Black brought on Mark Nicholls for Joe Walsh.
