Sunday 4th September Black Horse 5 The Fleece FC 3 Black started this game as though they were trying to make up for the disappointment of the last three games. They pushed forward straight away and were rewarded on 3 minutes when Stuart Hall scored his first goal for the club with a tremendous snap shot from the edge of the area into the left hand corner of the net to make it 1 - 0. Fleece were playing good football but could not create anything dangerous. In the 16th minute Justin Dankenbring moved forward from the back and unleashed a powerful shot that hit the bar and bounced up in the air and Kenny Fergie was on hand to head past the keeper for Black's second goal. It looked like Black was going to win this game at a canter but just two minutes later Fleece came roaring back when a long through ball beat the defence and Pyatt of Fleece slid it under Steve Grogan to make it 2 - 1. Four minutes later Fleece were level when a right wing cross was side footed home by David Edwards to level the scores at 2 - 2. Black looked shaky at this stage as a repeat of the last few weeks results looked on the cards but they kept playing football and regained the lead on 25 minutes with a brilliant goal from Stuart Hall. He received the ball on the edge of the area in a crowd of defenders and struck it first time into the roof of the net giving the Fleece goalkeeper no chance. In the 29th minute Fleece almost levelled again when a terrific free kick from all of 30 yards was brilliantly saved by Steve Grogan who managed to beat it out and an onrushing forward headed it over the bar under a strong challenge from Mark Williams. A few minutes later Dean Tilley limped off and was replaced by Martin Keight. Half-time Black 3 Fleece 2. Black started the second half quite brightly and Martin Keight was unlucky when his header from an Andy Smith corner was cleared off the line. In the 55th minute Gary Eades was replaced by debutante Chris Day who slotted in at right back. Black were beginning to put pressure on the Fleece back four and almost got a fourth when a miscued clearance went just wide of the Fleece post with the goalkeeper beaten. A fourth goal did arrive in the 67th minute when Andy Hawthorne rounded the keeper and slotted home after a great run and pass from Andy Smith. Two minutes later a brave Fleece side came roaring back again with a great headed goal by Bearcroft from a corner to make the score 4 - 3. With 15 minutes to go Andy Grubb was replaced by Steve Knight, another Black player making his debut and almost immediately Black were two goals clear again when Rob Powell just beat the keeper to a through ball from Stuart Hall and flicked it into the net. Fleece almost got a fourth goal just before the end when a free kick from the edge of the area hit the Black crossbar and rebounded to safety. Full-time Black 5 Fleece 3.
