Church Hill 1 - 2 Black Horse
Our second game of the season saw us away
to last years runners up Church Hill. The game started very cagily with neither
side having the upper hand. On 5 minutes Scott Walsh was unlucky to see his
long shot hit the bar with the goalkeeper beaten but goal chances were rare.
Church Hill gradually began to get on top but Black new boy Stuart Hall could
have scored when a low cross evaded the Church keeper but he just failed to turn
it home.
After a spell of sustained pressure Church Hill took the lead in the 30th minute when a
long throw was headed on by Anthony Savery at the near post and Craig Frampton
was on hand to side
foot the ball home. Church were playing very well at this stage but their
keeper had to be at his best to stop Stuart Hall when he was clean through just
before the break.
Church Hill came out after halftime looking for the second goal but their
chances diminished in the 50th minute when Alex Troth was sent off for a second
bookable offence. A few minutes later Black thought they had equalised when a
poor goal kick from the Church keeper was hammered back into the net but the
"goal" was disallowed because the keeper had taken the kick from the wrong
place.
Black were now pressing forward at every opportunity but could not find an
equaliser. On 60 minutes a powerful header from Martin Keight smashed against
the crossbar and minutes later Andy Grubb saw an attempt pushed onto the post by
the Church keeper. With less than 15 minutes to go, and just when it looked as
though Black would never score, Craig Pountney volleyed home a cross to level the
match.
Black continued to press but created few scoring chances. On 80 minutes Church
had Craig Frampton sent off for two yellow cards and this signalled an all-out
assault from Black. Craig Pountney had a volley saved by the excellent Church
keeper but in the second minute of added time he managed to turn the ball home
after a good passing move involving a number of players.
